Dhara Bakshi has been teaching Indian classical vocal music since 1995. She has a Master's degree in Performing Arts (Music Vocal) from M.S. University, Baroda. Additionally, she holds a Sangeet Visharad and the Sangeet Shiksha Visharad, augmenting her training in teaching vocal music. Dhara had the privilege of learning the Gwalior Gharana singing style from late Pt. Narayan Rao Patwardhan, disciple, and son of late Pt. Vinayak Rao Patwardhan. She has learned the Kirana Gharana singing style from Shrimati Meena Bapat, a disciple of Shrimati Prabha Atre. She is a recipient of the Acharya Allauddin Music Circle gold medal for excellence in Music Theory and Practical application. She has served as a Lecturer, and Head of the music department at J.G. College of Performing Arts, in Ahmedabad, India. She owns and operates the Indian Classical Music School of Columbia, in the greater Washington D.C. area.
